Re-touching is a wonderful tool for fixing images, erasing spots, altering levels, and smoothing out skin, however, the key to re-touching is to keep it subtle. Many headshot photographers apply too much retouching, and the end result is headshots that look too glossy, like commercial magazine models. If you turn up at your casting looking completely different to your headshot, the casting director will be baffled. Just enough re-touching, and you'll look like yourself on a perfect-skin day.

When choosing your headshot photographer, try not to get tempted by deals, such as very low prices, or 4 hour sessions. Price is always relative to quality and experience. Although you'll be paying less, you'll be receiving less; this will be evident once you receive the results. Four hour photoshoots are exhausting. You will not be achieving anything by being exausted at a photoshoot. You need to look your best, be relaxed, and have fun. As an actor, your headshot is your most important asset for gaining auditions, and getting good results will make a positive impact on your career.
